What is an advertisement?
An advertisement (often abbreviated as advert or ad) is a form of marketing that promotes a product, brand, or service to a target audience in order to generate interest, engagement, and sales. Advertisements come in a variety of formats, ranging from text to interactive video, and have evolved to become an important aspect of the app store.
Because an advertisement is paid for and the creator has complete control over the content and message, it differs from other forms of marketing.
Why are advertisements important?
Advertisements are a surefire way to reach a target audience. Advertisements can have an immediate impact on business by creating an engaging ad and spending enough to reach a large number of users. Among many other metrics, this effect could be seen in increased trade or increased brand recognition.
What do in-app ads look like?
Text, banners, push notifications, and pre- or post-roll video ads are all examples of in-app advertising. These video advertisements are typically 10-15 seconds long (though this can vary) and show the product within that time frame. Ads are becoming more interactive, and users are becoming more engaged as a result. Deep linking, for example, is a feature that allows advertisers to send users directly to an install page with a single click.
Which ad format should I use?
In advertising, picking the right format can be a make-or-break decision. Let’s look at some of the most popular ad formats in mobile advertising and when they’re most effective.
Banner ads
The goal of banner ads is to display an image and wait for users to view, click, and convert – which necessitates high-quality graphics and a compelling call to action (CTA).
Interstitial ads
Interstitial ads take up the entire screen. These can be used to avoid ‘banner blindness,’ which occurs when users have grown accustomed to seeing banner ads and no longer notice them. Expandable ads, which start out as regular banner ads before taking up the entire screen, are another type of interstitial ad.
Native ads
Ads that are designed to blend in with the environment in which they are displayed are known as native advertising. When you see a ‘sponsored’ tag attached to a YouTube video, for example, that is native advertising on that platform.
Video ads
Video ads are, as their name implies, advertisements that are presented in video format. Video ads are a popular advertising method by their very nature because they can be highly engaging and have high click-through rates (CTRs).
Playable ads
Playable ads allow you to try before you buy by providing access to interactive gameplay. This gives users a quick look at an app, with highlights that should entice them to download it. Playable ads can be used to reduce app uninstall rates because users can gauge their interest before purchasing the app.
